British Judo Education is an independent reference for judo techniques as they are taught and graded in British clubs. The site is organised as a grading register: six belt pages, red through brown, each listing the throws, hold-downs, escapes and combinations introduced at that grade.
Who writes the entries
The technique registers and grading guides are written by Callum Brier. Callum has spent more than two decades on British club mats, first as a junior competitor and later coaching junior and senior grades through their Mon and Kyu gradings. The step-by-step breakdowns come out of that coaching work - they are the corrections he found himself repeating on Tuesday nights, written down properly.
How entries are checked
Each entry is drafted from coaching notes, then checked against the standard Kodokan technique classifications and the terminology used in current British grading syllabuses. Where clubs differ - and they do, particularly on which belt introduces a technique - the entry says so rather than pretending one order is universal.
A technique appearing here is not a substitute for the syllabus your own club grades against. When your coach and this site disagree, your coach is right - they can see your posture.
Corrections
Terminology drifts and syllabuses get revised. If an entry names a technique incorrectly, credits the wrong classification, or describes a movement in a way that no longer matches how it is examined, a correction note is welcome - the register is only useful while it is accurate.
